The game between Argentina and the Netherlands was anything but dull, and goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez was sure to keep the fire burning with his statements right after the game.
The Aston Villa shot-stopper did not hold back when speaking to the media once the match had concluded, and he had some words of "wisdom" aimed at the referee, Mateu Lahoz, and for the Netherlands' boss, Louis Van Gaal.
Apparently, Martínez's beef against the coach was fueled by his words about how the Netherlands "were better" than Argentina when it came to taking penalties, something that was debunked by the goalie with two key saves in the penalty shootout.
Additionally, Martínez aimed quite a few blows at referee Mateu Lahoz for, in his opinion, shifting the tide in favor of the Dutch side so they could level the game.
Here are Martínez's words after the game (Image might be geo-restricted).
"Hopefully we don't have that ref anymore... He's useless! Van Gaal said they have an advantage if it goes to penalties, he needs to keep his mouth shut."
