De Spaanse Primera División, meestal aangeduid als La Liga, is de hoogste voetbalcompetitie in Spanje. Dit toernooi werd in 1929 opgezet en wordt momenteel beheerd door de Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional, een onderafdeling van de Koninklijke Spaanse voetbalfederatie (RFEF). Volgens het coëfficiëntsysteem van de UEFA wordt het tevens beschouwd als de beste nationale competitie ter wereld.
La Liga, met zijn status als het hoogste niveau van voetbal in Spanje, hanteert een promotie-degradatiesysteem. De beste teams aan het eind van elk seizoen verdienen plaatsen in Europese competities, terwijl de laatste drie teams van elk toernooi worden gedegradeerd naar de Spaanse Segunda División. Elk jaar strijden twintig teams over 38 rondes om de winnaar te bepalen en de teams die het toernooi verlaten te identificeren. Dankzij dit systeem hebben meer dan 60 teams in La Liga gespeeld, waarvan slechts negen de eer hebben gehad om zichzelf kampioenen te mogen noemen.
Een van de meest opmerkelijke aspecten van La Liga is de aanwezigheid van twee van 's werelds meest populaire voetbalclubs: Real Madrid en Barcelona. Deze Spaanse grootmachten staan elk jaar nek aan nek in de strijd om het kampioenschap, en hun rivaliteit wordt seizoen na seizoen op de voet gevolgd via televisie- en streamingplatformen wereldwijd. Hierbij is El Clásico een hoogtepunt op de sportkalender. Deze rivaliteit bereikte een hoogtepunt in de jaren 2010, toen Lionel Messi voor Barcelona speelde en Cristiano Ronaldo het shirt van Real Madrid droeg. De uitzendrechten voor de populaire Spaanse Primera Division (La Liga) zijn wereldwijd in bijna elke regio zeer gewild. Bedrijven zoals Movistar (Spanje), ESPN en Bein Sports (MENA-regio) zijn enkele van de netwerken die onlangs de uitzend- en streamingrechten voor La Liga hebben binnengehaald. In de Verenigde Staten heeft ESPN tot en met het seizoen 2029 zowel Engelse als Spaanse tv- en live streamingrechten voor La Liga veiliggesteld.
