As a result, they entered the final matchday as both favorites to join Portugal in the round of 16 and at risk of crashing out. However, an action-packed 2-1 win over nine-man Czechia secured qualification.
That result was crucial as it helped the Crescent-Stars finish second and avoid a showdown with Spain — Georgia, who finished third, met La Furia Roja and were thrashed 4-1. Nonetheless, Tuesday's clash with Austria should be difficult.
These two nations have locked horns six times over the past two decades, making this match-up a familiar sight. While bragging rights are up for grabs, a spot in the quarterfinals matters most, and neither side will want to miss out on that.
