About Primera B
Primera B History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage
The Categoría Primera B is the second level of men’s professional football in Colombia. It was founded in 1991 and is under the organization of DIMAYOR and CONMEBOL. Teams from the Categoría Primera B are eligible to participate in the annual Copa Colombia (Colombian Cup), and the top performing teams gain promotion to the Primera A at the conclusion of each system.
Atlético Huila, Cúcuta Deportivo, and Boyacá Chicó are among the most successful teams in Primera B history.
During the competition’s early years, public TV broadcaster Televisión Nacional de Colombia (TVN) was the main carrier of Primera B matches in Colombia. However, at the start of the 21st century, TV broadcast rights were sold to several different paid-TV providers, including Caracol TV, RCN Televisión, and most recently, Win Sports who acquired TV and live-streaming rights in the late 2010s to cover select Primera B matches.
