Man City’s clash with Southampton was always going to be very important, as it hands the English Premier League giants a terrific opportunity at putting an end to a run of disappointing results. Straight off their 4-0 thrashing to Barca, the Citizens hosted the Saints on Sunday.
The loss to the Blaugrana saw them go four games without a win in all competitions. Throw in the fact that closest rivals Arsenal dropped points a day earlier, and victory over the weekend was all the more important.
However, the hosts began the Premier League clash on the wrong foot. A huge blunder from summer signing John Stones saw the away side grab a first-half lead, much to the shock – and delight – of those following the game.

The most expensive British defender in history attempted a back pass to Claudio Bravo, but didn’t put enough speed to his pass. Nathan Redmond reacted quickly, intercepted the ball, dodged the charging Man City goalie, and slotted it into the back of the net.
That blunder from Stones saw Pep Guardiola’s boys move ahead of newly-promoted Middlesbrough with the most number of defensive errors this season. Boro have five; Man City now have six.
And as usual, Twitter showed no mercy for Stones after his costly mistake. Check out the best tweets.
