Manchester City will welcome Premier League debutants Cardiff City to the Etihad, a stadium the Citizens have scored for fun at this season.

Preview: Solskjaer et al in for a rough night

The Norwegian coach might have to wait longer for his first Premier League win as a manager, as his Cardiff side makes a visit to the dreaded Etihad Stadium. Man City have been lethal at home this season, apart from the perfect record they have enjoyed at home in league outings this season, the City attack has been absolutely merciless having racked up 38 goals in the 10 matches they have played so far.

City come into this match at the back of a 5-0 hammering of Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup, the 79th minute goal by Edin Dzeko was Man City’s 99th this season in all competitions and considering the goal-scoring run the Citizens are currently on, it will not be a surprise if they cross the century mark when they face Cardiff on Saturday.

Pellegrini will have the luxury to welcome back Argentine international Sergio Aguero who after missing eight games due to a calf injury made a goal scoring return in the match against Blackburn. The 25 year old has been in blistering form this campaign having scored 20 goals in all competitions, one less than striker partner Alvaro Negredo who has impressed following his summer move from Sevilla.

Whereas Edin Dzeko has played second fiddle to the Spanish international, he has delivered the goods when called upon and Manchester City defender Micah Richards  has hailed the prolific trio and their contribution towards City’s success this season.

"I think they've got everything. Sergio has pace and power. Edin is a good finisher and good in the air. Negredo runs around like a man possessed and is a great finisher,” said the 25 year old.

"They've all got something, some sort of gift to bring to the team, and it just seems to be clicking at the moment. If we want to win the league, if we want to wintrophies, they are going to be key.”

Cardiff will have a herculean task on hand when they face a side which has not lost a match since their 1-0 defeat at the hands of Sunderland in November.

Much for City’s dominance this season especially at home, the bluebirds will however have history in their favour having not lost to the Citizens since 1984.

The bluebirds maintained the record earlier in the season, when in their Premier League debut match they pulled off a major upset by defeating the 2011-2012 English champions by a 3-2 score line.

Whereas Solskjaer ‘s men can surely take inspiration from their antics that night, their current form will give them no motivation. The Welsh side have been on abysmal run as far as away games are concerned, with the visitors having failed to score in five of their last six matches away from home. This has resulted in Cardiff managing just six points from the ten away games they have played so far.

Their 2-0 loss at the hands of West Ham last time out pushed the bluebirds into the relegation zone. Only an unlikely result will see them climbing out of the bottom three this weekend with Man City poised to record their 11th home league win.

New signings Matts Moller Daelhi and Magnus Wolffe Eikrem could both feature as Cardiff prepare for arguably their toughest test yet, whereas Jordan Mutch and Andrew Taylor will both remain on the sidelines.

Man City will welcome back talismanic midfielder Yaya Toure back to the squad. The Ivory Coast international was rested in the FA Cup match against Blackburn but is now expected to return to the starting line-up along with Spanish star David Silva.

Samir Nasri who was carried off in a stretcher in the match against Newcastle after a reckless challenge from Yanga Mbiwa is expected to be out for some time whereas both Stevan Jovetic and Jack Rodwell will continue to nurse their hamstring injuries.
