Most-watched soccer games in the USA: February 19-25, 2024

The week of February 19 to February 25 was an exciting seven-day period of soccer, with the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League, and Liga MX all taking place while the MLS made its much-awaited return.

One MLS fixture made the list, with that game being LAFC's 2-1 victory over the Seattle Sounders on Saturday, racking in nearly 300,000 average viewers for Fox. However, this fixture did not make the top three most-watched soccer games in the USA last week.

Once again, Liga MX and the Premier League reigned supreme in that department. Sitting top of the list is Club America's weekend victory over Cruz Azul, with the Eagles keeping up pace with the Clausura leaders. Nearly one million average viewers tuned in to Univision as Julián Quiñones' fourth-minute goal secured the three points for the hosts.

Univision returns to claim the second spot, this time due to their coverage of Guadalajara's 3-1 victory over Pumas UNAM on Saturday. An impressive 842,000 average viewers tuned in to TelevisaUnivision's Spanish-language television network. This match also earned a rating of 0.34, which is only slightly beneath the previous fixture (0.39).

And finally, in third place, we have a Premier League fixture. This honor went to Manchester City's showdown with Bournemouth, which the Cityzens won 1-0. Phil Foden scored the only goal of the game, with this fixture earning NBC an average viewership of 720,000. Interestingly, this fixture earned the highest rating out of all three matches (0.44).

The French powerhouses lock horns today with PSG visiting bitter rivals Monaco on Friday. Mbappe and Co. sit top of the table with an impressive nine-point advantage over their nearest rivals, which are Brest. Les Rouge et Blanc, meanwhile, could leapfrog Brest and take the no.2 spot with a victory as they aim to end their three-game winless run against PSG.

Inter Miami vs. Orlando City live this Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET on Fox Network, Fox Deportes, and MLS Season Pass on Apple TV

Inter Miami return to action this weekend, facing Orlando City in the first Florida Derby of the 2024 MLS season. The Herons are unbeaten so far, beating Real Salt Lake 2-0 before drawing 1-1 away to LA Galaxy in the following round. Lionel Messi scored his first goal of the season in that match but Tata Martino's men showed their imperfections in both games. Orlando City, meanwhile, have played only once so far, drawing nil-nil at home to Montreal. Will they hand Messi and Co. their first defeat of the season? Don't miss this showdown.

Besiktas vs. Galatasaray live this Sundat at 11 a.m. ET on beIN Sports and beIN Sports en Español

Two Istanbul heavyweights face off on Sunday as Besiktas look to damage Galatasaray's title chase. The visitors are top of the Super Lig but sit only two points ahead of nearest rivals Fenerbahce. The hosts, on the other hand, are fourth and sit a whopping 26 points behind the Lions but enter this game on the back of a three-game winning streak.

Manchester City vs. Manchester United live this Sunday at 10:30 a.m ET exclusively on Peacock

The Manchester Derby takes center stage this weekend as Manchester United travel to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday with the sole goal of beating Manchester City. The Red Devils enter this clash on the back of their 1-0 FA Cup win over Nottingham Forest while the Cityzens are on an 18-game unbeaten run. Ten Hag's men lost their last league and cannot afford another slip-up in their race to make the top four. Guardiola's side, on the other, are locked in a heated title race with Liverpool and Arsenal, hence the importance of this match.

O Clássico is back! Porto vs. Benfica live this Sunday at 3:30 p.m. ET on GOLTV USA, GolTV Espanol, and GOLTV Play

Portugal's two biggest clubs lock horns this weekend as Porto host Benfica in a do-or-die match. The Dragons, who beat Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League not too long ago, are nine points behind the league leaders and would be all but eliminated from the title race if they lose. Benfica, meanwhile, are top of the table but sit only two points ahead of Sporting CP. Failure to beat Porto could see the Eagles surrender the lead to their Lisbon rivals.

CBS Sports shares UEFA Champions League coverage plans - March 5-6, 2024

The key moments in the UEFA Champions League are right around the corner, and what better way to follow every moment of the top club competition in the world than watching it live on CBS.

The tournament will have the return legs of all round of 16 ties in the next two weeks, and CBS has already shared coverage plans for the games being played.

With eight games left in this round, CBS Sports has committed itself to air at least two games in this round, leaving the rest to be covered by the company's streaming platforms and sister channels.

Things will get going on March 5, when the network is set to cover Real Sociedad vs. PSG. Les Parisiens earned a two-goal lead in the first leg, which means that the txuri-urdin will need three uncontested goals to end Mbappé's last Champions League dance with the French side if he ends up leaving the club this summer.

Next up, Wednesday's game will feature Manchester City vs. Kobenhavn. The Cityzens claimed the win with a 3-1 score back on February 13, which means that the Danish club will need to convert three times to have a chance at defeating the current title holders. Unfortunately. playing away from home could represent a major hurdle, which makes Manchester City the massive favorite to reach the next stage.

Both games can be streamed live on Paramount+ and ViX, as well as the other round of 16 showdowns (Bayern vs. Lazio and Real Madrid vs. RB Leipzig). Click here for more info on the UEFA Champions League games being aired by CBS next week. Click on each match for more details.

This week in women's soccer, March 1, March 7, D1 Feminine, Women's Super League, CONCACAF W Gold Cup

After a pause due to some international fixtures, many of the world's top leagues in women's soccer get back underway this week, including in England and France.

Here is all you need to know ahead of another week of women's soccer.

What to watch in women's soccer: March 1 to March 3

D1 Féminine

In France, Lyon continue to lead the way, but the defending champions showed that they are not totally infallible after dropping two points in a 1-1 draw against PSG last month. Still, the highly-decorated side continue to boast a seven-point lead over the chasing pack and will naturally look to avoid seeing that cut down any further when they take on Dijon on Sunday. However, with PSG in action a day earlier against  Le Havre on Saturday, Lyon could indeed see their lead reduced to four before they take to the pitch later this weekend.

Women's Super League

The Women's Super League resumes this weekend as Manchester City welcome Everton. The Cityzens could move into the top spot with a win in Saturday's fixture, as they are currently sitting in second,  but are tied on points with league leaders and reigning WSL champions Chelsea. Meanwhile, Everton recently ended a four-match losing streak by beating West Ham 2-0 in their last match before the break, but they are expected to face an even tougher test against title aspirants City this weekend.

As for Chelsea, who were beaten 1-0 by Manchester City prior to the international break, the Blues will be in action on Sunday on the road against Leicester City. There will be a lot of pressure on the reigning title holders to get things right in this game, as it is possible they could find themselves in second even before they get on the pitch with the City-Everton game taking place over 24 hours later.

Third-placed Arsenal, who sit three points behind Chelsea and Manchester City, will be looking to keep their foot in the title door race when they lock horns with Tottenham in the first of Sunday's batch of games. The Gunners recently earned a 3-1 win over Manchester United to remain within touching distance of the top two teams but will need to continue picking up points in order to have a fighting chance at pipping either Chelsea or Manchester City to the coveted title.

Fans in the USA can catch many of these games on TV via CBS Sports Network or live-stream games via Paramount+.

CONCACAF W Gold Cup

The quarter-finals of the inaugural CONCACAF W Gold Cup get underway this weekend with a series of double-headers. On Saturday, the knockout rounds commence with a tie featuring Canada and Costa Rica, followed by an intriguing all-CONMEBOL clash starring Brazil and Argentina.

Many eyes will be on Sunday's games, especially the USWNT's tie against Colombia, which will kick off at 10:15 pm EST (7:15 pm PST) as the Stars and Stripes hope to regain their footing after a shock result from matchday three of the group stages. Before that game, Mexico will take on Paraguay, with La Tri certainly brimming with confidence after finishing top of Group A.

Viewers in the USA have quite a few options to follow several of these games, including live-streaming via Paramount+ and ESPN+, while Spanish speakers can tune in to ESPN Deportes to watch on TV.

What to watch in women's soccer: March 4 to March 7

CONCACAF W Gold Cup

The semi-finals of the 2024 CONCACAF W Gold Cup will kick off on March 6th, and it is safe to say that there will be some exciting match-ups featuring the winners of the quarter-finals ties that are taking place on March 2nd and March 3rd.

FA Women's League Cup

The FA Women's League Cup also resumes this week, starting with an intriguing clash starring Arsenal and Aston Villa on March 6th. The Gunners have won this cup more than any other women's side, and are aiming to make it a seventh title this year. On March 7th, it will be Manchester City and Chelsea - two teams involved in the battle for the WSL title - matching wits, with the winner from that match facing the victor from the Arsenal vs. Aston Villa tie in the final taking place at the end of March.

USWNT suffer shock loss in CONCACAF W Gold Cup

It has not been the easiest past year or so for the UWSNT. Last summer saw them dumped out at the round of 16 at a World Cup for the first time in team history, and now, the Stars and Stripes will come into their upcoming CONCACAF W Cup tie having suffered a shock 2-0 loss to Mexico on matchday three of the group stages.

The defeat to La Tri ended several impressive records the USWNT had held. Prior to that game, they were boasting a 16-match winning streak against Mexico, with clean sheets in their most recent six. Second, Team USA had lost just one of their last 42 meetings versus La Tri (W40 D1) and were unbeaten in their last 80 home games against CONCACAF opponents dating back to December 2000.

Third, California appeared to be a good luck charm for Team USA, who had not lost when playing in the Golden State in their last 55 games (W51 D4). However, that all came crashing down on Monday evening, and now, many eyes will be on how the USWNT recover as they prepare to face Colombia on Sunday.

Didn't find your favorite women's league on this list? No worries, as this is just a highlight of some of the exciting games coming up this week. Make sure to check out our special women's soccer page here at LiveSoccerTV.com for full broadcast info, match updates, news, and more.

More trouble at Man United: Staff fear Ten Hag's relationship with Rashford has been irrevocably damaged

According to talkSPORT, one "well-placed source" has informed the British news outlet that things are "frosty" between Erik ten Hag and Marcus Rashford. The Sun goes into deeper detail regarding this issue, writing that this stems from Rashford's night out in Belfast last month.

The Englishman was due in training but called in sick on January 26, just 48 hours before the team's FA Cup fixture against Newport County. It was later revealed that Marcus had gone out the night before and had a tequila session in a nightclub in Belfast until the early hours of that day Manchester United had training.

The 26-year-old caught a private plane back to Manchester but was called to a meeting with an infuriated Ten Hag. To make matters worse, the Dutchman was further angered by the player's attempt to cover his tracks as he allegedly lied and claimed the incident took place 24 hours earlier than when it actually happened.

The attacker accepted responsibility and while he was dropped for that trip to Newport County, which they won 4-2, he was restored back to the team immediately after and even scored when they visited Wolves a few days later. Read more…

Transfer: Real Madrid reach verbal agreement with Bayern Munich ace

Real Madrid have all but wrapped up the Kylian Mbappe deal but despite that, the Spanish giants have reportedly lined up another wonderful signing.

According to the Athletic, Los Blancos have reached a verbal agreement with one of Bayern Munich's most highly-rated defenders. That man is Alphonso Davies, the talented Canadian international who is nearing the end of his Allianz Arena contract.

The 23-year-old is regarded by many as one of the best fullbacks in the world while others believe he could transition into a world-class winger. Regardless, Bayern Munich, who have begun contract negotiations with the former Vancouver Whitecaps ace, appear set to lose this talent.

The player's contract runs out in 2025, which means he is entering the final year of his deal this summer. As a result, Los Blancos are targeting a deal for either this summer or the summer of 2025 when he is a free agent. Read more….

Chelsea reportedly eyeing highly-rated Portuguese manager as Pochettino's Stamford Bridge future comes under doubt

According to the Daily Mail, Pochettino's future at Stamford Bridge is no longer certain in the wake of their Carabao Cup final defeat, with qualification for European football likely to be a huge factor in whether the 51-year-old continues past this campaign.

The former Tottenham boss joined the London giants on a mere two-year contract with the option for an additional year. This makes it easier for Todd Boehly and Co. to part ways with the South American, should they choose to do so.

While Pochettino is unlikely to get sacked before the end of the season, the Daily Mail reports that the London giants have already begun looking at potential replacements. One candidate high up their wishlist is Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim.

The Portuguese boss, who led the Lions to the 2020/21 Primeira Liga title, is highly regarded and has been linked to the Liverpool job  — albeit loosely. Amorim has his Sporting CP side only two points adrift of current leaders Benfica and could be sought after if he leaves Lisbon this summer. Read more…

France star Pogba handed four-year doping ban

France star Paul Pogba has been given a four-year ban from football by Italy's anti-doping tribunal after testing positive for testosterone last August, his club Juventus said on Thursday.

A spokesman for the club told AFP it had been notified of the decision against the 30-year-old World Cup winner, who had been provisionally suspended in September.

"We received notification from the tribunal this morning," the spokesman said. Italy's anti-doping body did not immediately respond when contacted by AFP.

Anti-doping prosecutors had called for the four-year ban to be imposed on the former Manchester United midfielder, who tested positive following Juventus's opening match of the Italian Serie A season against Udinese on August 20, during which he was an unused substitute. Read more…

United Soccer League and ESPN extend multiannual broadcasting agreement

Once again, ESPN and the United Soccer League will team up for more action on the network's programming by extending their relationship for the 2024 season.

The deal, which will include the largest coverage for this league on ESPN's platforms, will also include the recently created USL League One championship, with a new format and different tiebreakers to make the competition more interesting.

This agreement will complete the USL's media package for the 2024 season. The package will also include other local and national television networks. The USL will be airing 35 games on national TV between CBS and ESPN, which will increase from just nine in 2023.

The 2024 USL season will include two new teams: Rhode Island FC, which will play in the USL Championship, and Spokane Velocity FC, who are set to join the USL League One. Read more…

Klopp ranks Liverpool's League Cup glory as his "most special" trophy

Jurgen Klopp hailed Liverpool's League Cup final triumph against Chelsea as the "most special" trophy of his career as the German learned he can win with kids.

Virgil van Dijk clinched Liverpool's 1-0 win with a dramatic header two minutes from the end of extra-time at Wembley on Sunday.

Liverpool's victory was especially sweet for Klopp as it came during an injury-hit period for his club that forced him to field a remarkably inexperienced team.

The Reds boss started with 20-year-olds Conor Bradley and Harvey Elliott in his side and brought on Bobby Clark (19), James McConnell (19), Jayden Danns (18), and Jarell Quansah (21) from the bench. Read more…
