The highly-rated starlet has been linked with several clubs, but the center back has already made his choice on where to continue playing.

Some teams that have been pursuing the highly-rated footballer will not like to read these lines, as Matthijs De Ligt has already made a decision in where to continue his playing career.

According to a statement by Ajax's goalkeeper Andre Onana, he has talked with De Ligt about this subject repeatedly, and fans in La Liga will be pleased to know that the 19-year-old center back has already decided that he wants to follow team-mate Frenkie De Jong's path to Barcelona.

"De Jong will join them and De Ligt would also like to go, I talked to him several times and with both of them," the former La Masía member said.

Onana added that both footballer will benefit from playing together, since it will be easier for them to adapt to life in Spain. Added to that, Onana praised De Jong's decision and desire to play for one of the best teams in the world as of now.

"He is young and can always improve, he has a lot of room for improvement," the Cameroonian goalie said.

While Barcelona execs had been coy about their interest in the player, president Josep María Bartomeu confirmed that De Ligt is being followed closely by Barcelona execs. Even so, there is no ongoing negotiation between the Dutch and Spanish sides for the time being.

"We have followed De Ligt for a while. It's true he's a player we like, but Barca also have other important players in the squad. We will look at more things from March or April. We're delighted to watch him play and admire him, but there's nothing more at the moment," Bartomeu said.

The 19-year-old defender has played 28 games this season with Ajax, scoring two goals and handing out an assist in the Dutch top flight. He has also featured for the Dutch national team, which could give fans a hint on what to expect from him in the near future.
