The Frenchman was missing when his side took on the Clarets on Tuesday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed why Anthony Martial was not spotted in the Manchester United squad list for the Premier League clash with Burnley. The Frenchman has featured in all the matches since the arrival of the interim manager and has contributed a two goals and an assist. Momentarily, he stands as his side's top goalscorer in the league with eight goals.

Against Arsenal in the FA Cup on Friday, the 23-year-old winger sealed the win for Manchester United by scoring off the bench. However, his name was not featured in matchday squad on Tuesday and Solskjaer has confirmed that the attacker's omission is as a result of an injury he picked up in training.

"He (Martial) got a slight injury in training but hopefully he'll be back for next weekend," said Solskjaer on MUTV.

"But there was no chance he could play today so it was easy enough to put Romelu [Lukaku] on the pitch."

The Norwegian manager went ahead to defend his selection of Andreas Pereira ahead of Ander Herrera who has been one of the standout performers of the Red Devils since he arrived.

"Andreas has been fantastic in training. He really has been determined. He was disappointed with his game against Reading and we had a little chat about it. He's been really working hard and I think he deserves a chance," added United' s caretaker boss.

"Ander (Herrera) has been different class but, this time, you know we need to rotate a little bit."
