How did Barcelona and Sevilla get to this stage of the Copa del Rey?

Barcelona walked past Cultural Leonesa in the Round of 32 with a 5-1 aggregate. Then, Valverde's team eliminated Levante from the competition with a 4-2 score after two legs. Their last tie was involved in controversy, as defender Chumi was allegedly not allowed to play the first leg, which prompted a protest from Levante. Since the protest was filed after the appropriate term, Barcelona was allowed to play in the quarter finals.

Sevilla struggled to make it past Villanovense in the Round of 32 but eventually made it through with a 1-0 score. Their next opponent was Athletic Club, which they went on to defeat with a 3-1 aggregate.

What do Barcelona and Sevilla need to make it to the next round?

Barcelona needs to win this game with a three-goal margin without conceding. If Sevilla scores one goal, Los Blaugranas will be forced to get a four-goal difference to make it to the semi-finals.

Sevilla can allow themselves to draw this game or even lose by a one-goal margin. Pablo Machin's men would still make it to the semis if the game ends with a two-goal difference for Barcelona and they can manage to score (i.e., 3-1, 4-2).

The only way for this tie to be decided in extra time would be if Barcelona gets a 2-0 win after 90 minutes.
