The Spanish giants have closed a deal for one of football's brightest prospects at the moment.

Barcelona has officially confirmed the signing of 21-year-old Netherlands sensation Frenkie De Jong. The midfielder will join the Blaugrana in the summer after a bid of 75 million euros plus add-ons was accepted by Ajax.

De Jong is expected to sign a five-year contract which will see him at the club until the summer of 2024. A statement released by the Spanish club reads as follow: "FC Barcelona and Ajax have reached an agreement for the transfer of midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who will be joining the Catalan club from 1 July 2019.

"The cost of the transfer operation is 75 million euros, plus a further 11 million in variables. The player will be signing a contract for the next five seasons, through to 2023/24.

"The president Josep Maria Bartomeu and the CEO Òscar Grau were personally involved in closing the deal in Amsterdam."

Despite the Catalan club recently being handed a boost in its pursuit of the Dutch prodigy, the news of a closed deal come as a bit surprising. Initial speculations hinted that French outfit Paris Saint-Germain was the front runner in the race for his signature.

De Jong joins Barcelona's fleet of young talents as the Spanish club aims at ensuring a smooth transition when its old stars phase out. With a heavy focus on technical skillsets, the times ahead could be very exciting as the club now has Ousmane Dembele, Arthur (22), Riqui Puig (19), Carles Aleñá (21) Oriol Busquets (20) and De Jong (21) in its ranks.

"With the arrival of Frenkie De Jong, we add talent, youth, and Barça style to our sporting project," club president Josep Maria Bartomeu wrote on Twitter.

"We are convinced that he will be a key part of our team for years to come. Welcome, Frenkie!"

De Jong's signing comes just two days after Barcelona surprisingly secured the service of Sassuolo's Kevin-Prince Boateng. Reports indicate that the Spanish club is also actively working on bringing the former's teammate De Ligt to Camp Nou as it aims to strengthen the center back position as well.
