Raphael Varane could be on his way to Old Trafford, but only one thing will stop him.

English publication The Daily Star reports that Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane is willing to join Man United for £30m, but only under one condition; if former Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho replaces Louis Van Gaal at Old Trafford. Varane has been struggling to get a starting berth at the Santiago Bernabeu outfit under new manager Zinedine Zidane, something that has triggered his desire to search for regular play time elsewhere.

Even though Old Trafford seems to be his most desired destination, the availability of Louis Van Gaal as the head coach of Man Utd could prompt him to stay with Los Blancos, or consider other options. The talented centre-back was signed by Jose Mourinho from Lens to Real Madrid back in 2011 and is yearning for a reunion with the outspoken manager at Old Trafford this summer.

It should also be remembered that former Man United boss Sir Alex Ferguson tried to sign the 23-year-old back in 2011 but lost the bid to Real Madrid. The legendary Scottish manager then opted for Phil Jones from Blackburn Rovers.

It seems the issue of Van Gaal staying at Man Utd has put off some key players who prefer playing under Mourinho than the former Bayern Munich boss. On Monday, Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich confirmed the signing of Man United’s long-term target Renato Sanches from Benfica. The Red Devils had reportedly scouted the talented winger more than 24 times this season alone but he opted to join the Bavarians after allegedly realizing that Mourinho may not join the English giants this summer.
