 | Spain - La Liga (2021-2029) The Walt Disney Company’s sports network ESPN has acquired exclusive rights to the Spanish La Liga in the USA. ESPN’s eight-year deal gives it full access to La Liga’s English- and Spanish-language rights in America through 2029. Signed prior to the 2021/22 season, ESPN’s record-breaking agreement was reported to be worth $175 million per year, totaling about $1,4 billion.More detailsLive La Liga matches in USA are expected to be televised on linear ESPN networks, including the flagship ESPN channel and ESPN Deportes, as well as on ABC.All fixtures are to be aired in high definition both on TV and digital platforms. Detailed match highlights along with analysis and studio programs such as SportsCenter and Fuera de Juego will continuously enrich the viewers experience, every season. This is in addition to game previews, half-time talks, postgame and magazine shows. La Liga content will additionally be distributed on ESPN’s social media pages in USA. ESPNU History, Coverage, Features
ESPNU is an English-language sports television channel owned by ESPN Inc., in USA. It is available nationwide via cable, IPTV, satellite and digital streaming services. ESPNU broadcasts both in HD (720p) and SD (480i). The network was launched in 2005 and is available in over 60 million households in America. It is related to other college sports-focused channels operating under ESPN, such as ACC Network, Longhorn Network and SEC Network.Over the years, ESPNU has covered a wide variety of college sports, including American football, baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer, softball and volleyball. Some of the games telecast on ESPN are distributed on ESPN Player – ESPN’s international live and on-demand streaming service serving sports fans in Africa, parts of Asia, Europe and the Middle East. In addition to live games, ESPNU has aired original programming in the form of magazine shows, many of which have gained popularity, over time. Live soccer on ESPNU in the past has included international youth tournaments, like the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, UEFA Euro U21 championship, as well as senior competitions like the UEFA Euro championship and qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup.
At the domestic level – on top of men’s and women’s college soccer – ESPNU has provided coverage for the USL Championship and USL League One. Outside of USA, leagues for which ESPN have owned the rights and selected ESPNU for live telecasts include the German Bundesliga, and even the English Premier League, before NBC snatched exclusive U.S. rights in 2012. ESPNU is available on major satellite, cable and IPTV providers in the U.S. Exact channel numbers and listings may vary depending on the location.
ESPNU streaming is available to users of the ESPN App, which is available for Android and iOS mobile devices, Android TV, Apple TV, Fire TV, Roku, PS4 and Xbox One. Subscribers may be required to authenticate themselves via a participating TV provider prior to accessing the streams.
