Who will join Dortmund in this season's UEFA Champions League final? This question will be answered on Wednesday as Real Madrid, the record 14-time winners, host Bayern Munich in the second leg of their semifinal match-up, with this 3 p.m. ET showdown set to decide the last finalist for the highly-anticipated curtain closer at Wembley Stadium on June 1.

Los Blancos have the home advantage in this leg, and following recent occurrences, Carlo Ancelotti's men should enter this tie high on confidence. First of all, unlike Bayern Munich, Real Madrid have been crowned the champions of their country, with the Madrid giants officially winning La Liga over the weekend.

Not only did UEFA Champions League semifinalists beat Cadiz 2-0 on Saturday but later watched Girona overcome Barcelona 4-2 to mathematically secure the top-flight crown. With that out of the way, Real Madrid can fully focus on Europe in their pursuit of the double.

And that's not all. Given what occurred in the first leg, the hosts boast the advantage, having drawn 2-2 at the Allianz Arena. Vinicius Jr. was the star of the show as the Brazilian scored twice to help his team avoid a costly defeat in Bavaria.

The Brazilian sensation broke the deadlock shortly before the half-an-hour mark thanks to an exquisite Toni Kroos assist. The German giants scored twice in quick succession in the second half to turn the game on its head, but after Rodrygo won a late penalty, Vinicius Jr. stepped up and converted with ease.

That result helped the Merengues maintain their fantastic unbeaten run, with Real Madrid last losing a game on January 18 when they crashed out of the Copa del Rey at the hands of bitter rivals Atletico, losing 4-2 after extra time.

Bayern Munich, on the flip side, are fighting to salvage what has so far been a disappointing season for the German giants. Die Roten, who had won the Bundesliga title for 11 straight seasons, were forced to watch Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen win the German top-flight trophy while missing out on the DFB Pokal crown, crashing out in the 2nd round.

As a result, the German giants are at grave risk of suffering their first trophyless season since 2011-12, leaving the UEFA Champions League as their only route to silverware. With Thomas Tuchel set to depart in the summer, the head coach will have extra motivation to win this competition for the second time in his career, and while their domestic form has been shaky, his side should take confidence from their European campaign.

Harry Kane and Co. finished top in a group that consisted of Manchester United, Galatasaray, and Copenhagen while overcoming Lazio in the round of 16. However, their notable achievement was overcoming Premier League leaders Arsenal in the quarterfinals despite many favoring the Gunners to go through.

Tuchel's men had fitness issues but despite that, they managed a 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium thanks to goals from former Arsenal attacker Serge Gnabry and Tottenham icon Harry Kane. At the Allianz Arena, they secured a 1-0 victory thanks to a lovely Joshua Kimmich goal to triumph 3-2 on aggregate and progress to the semifinals.

While this will undoubtedly be a tough showdown, the visitors should be motivated by a desire for revenge. The head-to-head record is close, albeit slightly favoring Real Madrid, but Bayern Munich were eliminated the last two times these continental giants met in the UEFA Champions League semifinals (2013-14 and 2017-18). Do not miss this showdown!

Team news

Real Madrid: Dani Carvajal is back from suspension while Thibaut Courtois made his much-awaited return from injury in the recent win over Cadiz – though he might not replace Andriy Lunin in goal just yet. David Alaba is the hosts' only absentee. Eder Militao, who returned from his ACL injury, is unlikely to start. However, Bellingham, Rodrygo, Vinicius Jr., Kroos, and Valverde should all return to the lineup.

Bayern Munich: Guerreiro is out for the rest of the season while Matthijs de Ligt is a doubt, though the Dutchman could be in contention. Kingsley Coman will also watch from the sidelines but with Sane, Gnabry, Musiala, and Kane all fit to go, Tuchel should have enough firepower to inflict damage on the Spanish giants.
