De Russische Premier League is de hoogste professionele voetbalcompetitie in Rusland. Deze competitie is in 2001 van start gegaan en wordt sindsdien beheerd door de Russische Voetbalbond. Het verving de Russische Topdivisie die in 1992 werd opgericht.
Net als veel Europese competities hanteert deze competitie een promotie-degradatiesysteem, met zestien teams die deelnemen aan alle RPL-toernooien. Deze toernooien beginnen gewoonlijk in juli en hebben een uitgebreide winterstop tussen december en eind februari. De teams die het laagst in de competitie eindigen worden gedegradeerd naar de Russische Eerste Divisie, terwijl de teams die op de 13e en 14e plaats eindigen een degradatie-play-off spelen tegen twee teams uit de Eerste Divisie.
In de loop der jaren hebben er meer dan 50 teams in de Russische hoogste voetbalcompetitie gespeeld, maar slechts drie clubs (Spartak Moskou, CSKA Moskou en Lokomotiv Moskou) hebben degradatie kunnen vermijden sinds de oprichting van de competitie. Spartak Moskou is tot nu toe het meest succesvolle team geweest.
De wedstrijden van de Russische Premier League kunnen online worden bekeken door een abonnement af te sluiten op de website van de competitie. Lineaire tv-uitzendingen zijn eveneens beschikbaar via Match TV en Match Premier, die tot 2025 de uitzendrechten van de competitie hebben verworven.
