About
TV4 Sportkanalen History, Coverage, Features
Sportkanalen is a Swedish television channel owned and operated by the C More Media Entertainment Company. It was launched on October 14, 2017 as a replacement to TV4 Sport.
As its name states, Sportkanalen is a sports-specific television channel. Over the years, the channel has dedicated itself to air content related to disciplines such as ice hockey, football, handball, and golf. While domestic competitions have a special place in the channel’s grid, international competitions for all these disciplines have also aired.
Speaking about domestic football, Sportkanalen has aired content for competitions such as Swedish Cups and games featuring the Swedish National Team. In terms of international leagues, the channel has included content coming from leagues such as the MLS, La Liga, and the Italian Serie A. International tournaments for national teams have also been covered, with the UEFA Nations League and the UEFA Euro Qualifiers being some of the competitions aired on this channel.
Since its launch, Sportkanalen was conceived as a High-Definition channel. The channel has aired all content on the Swedish Television System and on pay-tv carriers with that definition since the channel saw the light.
Transition of C More to TV4 Play:
In August 2023, Telia's Swedish television arm, C More, transitioned to TV4 Play, significantly consolidating its digital offerings. This strategic shift saw subscriptions being migrated to corresponding TV4 Play packages to provide a broader spectrum of services backed by a robust content lineup. Further emphasizing the change, the Nordic telco Telia introduced its new streaming service, TV4 Play, as a successor to the C More brand. Subscribers of C More had benefited from TV4 Play's enhanced content offerings, especially through its Plus packages, which presented options for both ad-supported and ad-free content.
