Three Leicester City players have been recognized for the key role in the club’s unexpected title push, as star trio Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez, and N’Golo Kanté have all been nominated for this season’s PFA Player of the Year award.
The English striker has proven his worth this campaign, with his 21 goals this season rocketing the Foxes to the top of the table. Mahrez has been the playmaker of Claudio Ranieri’s side, notching up 11 assists, whilst Frenchman Kante providing the midfield shield.
However, the Leicester trio will face stiff competition from Arsenal superstar Mesut Ozil, who was also nominated for the prize having assisted 18 goals – 2 away from Thierry Henry’s Premier League record – and scoring 6.
Although the German scored in the Gunners’ thrilling 3-3 draw with West Ham, the “Assist King” has not set up a goal in the English top-flight since late February, though, in the 3-2 loss to Man United.
West Ham’s Dimitri Payet also made the cut, with the free-kick specialist proving important to the Hammers’ push for a Champions League spot, whilst the league’s top scorer Harry Kane completes the list.
The Spurs star, having scored 22 goals this term so far, is also in contention of retaining his Young Player of the Year crown from last season, having been named in the six-man shortlist alongside team-mate Dele Alli, Everton’ Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley, Stoke goalie Jack Butland, and Philippe Coutinho of Liverpool.
